I enjoyed travelling to Lanchester, in County Durham, yesterday evening to deliver my Woolworths history talk to the village’s Church Wives!
It’s always a pleasure to speak to local groups across the region, celebrating our rich retail history but also gently spreading a positive message about modern-day places – such as the large proportion of Woolies premises still in active retail use.
I also always think it’s useful practice to speak to diverse audiences across the North East, and to hone my communication skills and charm – attributes that are very helpful in my day-to-day retail consultancy work.
And I’ve learnt by now that there is often no harder audience than a room full of older people – they will soon tell you if they think you’re talking nonsense, or if they can’t hear properly.
Happily the Church Wives were delightful!
